Time to sit back and unwind

Here it is Monday nights slightly transformed

Just a bit of a break from the norm

Just a little somethin’ to break the monotony

Of all that hardcore yoga that has gotten to be

A little bit out of control it’s cool to dance

But what about the food by Gabe Kennedy the feel-good chef that soothes that moves romance

Give me a soft subtle green smoothie blend

And if ain’t vegan then don’t try to eat it

And think of the summers of the past

Adjust your diet and let the alpine blast

Pop into M.O.B. in Brooklynand let me run a rhyme

And meditate and lay back cause this is summertime

Gena Hamshaw’s new book is out and it’s a sort of a buzz

A back then I didn’t really know what raw or vegan was

But now I see what have of this

The way that people respond to summer madness

The weather is hot and girls are dressing less

And checking out the fellas to tell ’em who’s best

Dry brushing around in your bathtub with Mio skincare

Or in your shower in just underwear

Back on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn we be out after dark

A place called M.O.B. is where everybody goes

Guys out hunting vegetables and girls doing likewise

Honking at the honey (or coconut sugar?) in front of you with the light eyes

She turn around to see what you eating

It’s like this meal is a natural aphrodisiac

And with a pen and Ipad I compose this rhyme

To hit you and get you equipped for the summer time

Summer, summer, summertime

Time to sit back and unwind

 

It’s late in the day and we ain’t eaten dinner yet

Gabe hustles to the kitchen to make us the best meal yet

The temperature’s about 84

So perfect night for a semi-raw, vegan dinner…eaten with an Eatingtools.com Spork!

Break to ya crib change your clothes once more

Cause you’re invited to a barbeque that’s starting at … 5:30 PM!

Sitting with your new, like-minded friends cause y’all remincise

About the days growing up and the hot chef you’ll all want to kiss

And as I think back makes me wonder how

The smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia

All the kids (/ kids at heart) playing out front

Boys messin round at the LuliTonix bar with the girls doin double pigeons

While the DJ’s spinning a tune (well really just Jes’ Spotify playlist, but there are lots of ‘80s beats) as the folks dance at this big M.O.B. summer camp family reunion

Then 7 o’clock rolls around

You just finished wiping your yoga mat down

It’s time to flow so you get ready for some flow Jes Allen-style

It looks like a big fun, plant party

Everybody come lookin real fine

Fresh from the farmers market or fly from the natural beauty salon

Every moment eatin and flowin

Chillin in the M.O.B. outdoor garden they spent all day meditatin

There’s an air of love and of happiness

And this is M.O.B. new defintion of summer madness

We started off with some shots of liquid love at the LuliTonix blends bar as guests mingled, experienced their first chocogasm with flower-infused chocolates from Wei of Chocolate and checked out the latest haute kaleture collections from Troy Cloth and Paper. As you know, I’m a huge fan of beautifying oneself from the inside through healthy foods and mindful meditation, but hey, sometimes we need a little help from the outside in as well. M.O.Beauty night featured the latest in skinsational body crèmes de la crèmes from Mio Skincare. We all learned about the benefits of dry brushing (dry brushing is the new black, didn’t you know?) and treated our skin to some workout wonder muscle gel (“wonder” doesn’t even begin to describe this stuff) and of course some liquid yoga and double buff among their full line of fabulously fit products. Even though all of our watches were set to NOW (thanks, Tiny Time Machines!), it was soon time to start the yoga flow. Jes Allen led us in an artful danse on our yoga mats (appropriately also works of art thanks to Yoga Design Lab) as we energized our bodies and relaxed all at once (yes, if you haven’t taken a yoga class with this acrobatic angel, get ready for your life to change). And because YogArt wasn’t enough, we treated ourselves and our skin to luxury artisan soaps and skin care à la Osmia Organics, fresh from the Colorado fresh air to BK. We sampled the flower body oil (what else for Lafleur?) and linden rose hand cream (“Je vois la hand en rooooooose” …to be sung Edith Piaf-style, obviously) and puckered up for some whisper, luster and simmer lip glosses (does is get any sexier than that?) And because this was a très high brow event…we had NYC’s best brow and bikini wax masters Shobha on hand with some of their famous rosewater fresheners. And then… time to eat!

Feel-good chef Gabe Kennedy managed to outdo even himself after two incredible dinners for the best one yet. Third time’s a chard!

We all sat down to enjoy this family-style feast with our newfound family.

Some menu highlights:

Raw beet, sunflower and cilantro ravioli with avocado emulsion and fresh herbs

Roasted miso eggplant

A zucchini carpaccio with cashew “cheese” and pomegranate

(see: the best nuts EVER, Living Nutz!)

A quinoa salad with smoked paprika, red peppers and mulberries (à la Navitas Naturals, our favorite superfoods!)

Black rice noodles with a tahini sauce, capers and radishes

Roasted purple and white cauliflower (aka chou-fleur in French, my favorite vegetable name!) with a red pepper sauce

(The black rice noodles are made by King Soba and you can find them at Whole Foods, or, if you can’t email me I’ll hook you up with oodles of noodles!)

And la pièce de résistance? A dessert : chewy raw cookie, candied pecans, vanilla cashew crème, mulberries (we can’t get enough!), blueberries and pomegranate

It was a sweet, sweet way to end a sweet, sweet evening.

Meet this week’s Kaleebrity guest star Gena Hamshaw, author of brand new book CHOOSING RAW and the famous blog by the same name. Gena will be in the house to sign books and give tips on how to incorporate more raw foods into your daily lives. Feel-good chef Gabe Kennedy will whip up another delicious (and vegan and gluten-free, but you may not even notice 😉 meal inspired by the recipes from Gena’s book with his own feel-good flare.
